Isotretinoin, also known as 13-cis retinoic acid, is an oral pharmaceutical agent primarily utilized for the treatment of severe acne. As a retinoid related to Vitamin A, it works by reducing the size and sebum output of sebaceous glands and providing an antimicrobial effect on Propionibacterium acnes.
Unlike standard antibiotic treatments, this compound addresses the four major pathogenic processes associated with acne. This makes it a highly effective choice for severe nodulocystic cases. For optimal efficacy, it is recommended to administer this product with a high-fat meal, as absorption is significantly improved compared to taking it on an empty stomach.
