Tados is an oral medication utilized for the treatment of impotence and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). As a member of the phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor class, it functions by modulating the body's natural chemical processes. The mechanism involves the regulation of nitric oxide and the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which produces cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP).

In a healthy physiological state, cGMP facilitates the relaxation of smooth muscles and blood vessel dilation. Tadalafil works by preventing the enzyme PDE5 from breaking down cGMP. By inhibiting this enzyme, Tadalafil allows cGMP to persist longer, facilitating prolonged blood flow and more effective relaxation of the smooth muscle tissues. This includes the muscles of the bladder and prostate, which may help alleviate the difficulty of urination associated with BPH.

Safety Note: Do not take Tadalafil if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems (such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate). Nitrates are also commonly found in recreational substances like "poppers." Combining these can lead to a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure.
